On September 29, 2015, at approximately 11:40 PM, Joseph J. Arrevalos, (25), walked into the Edwards County Detention Center located in the City of Rocksprings, Edwards County, TX, and told the Dispatcher that his mother was unresponsive. The Dispatcher observed that Joseph had blood on his hands, face and leg so he immediately dispatched Deputies and EMS to the residence of Joseph, where he lives with his mother, Mildred Ruiz.

Edwards County Deputies went to the home of Mildred Ruiz, (56) and found her on the floor with multiple stab wounds. It was later determined by the Medical Examiner that Mildred Ruiz had been stabbed 53 times.

“Mildred’s smile and kind disposition always welcomed anyone she met when they visited Vaquero’s Restaurant located in the City of Rocksprings. I am deeply saddened by this tragic event and my condolences to the family as they mourn the loss of a very precious woman,” said Sheriff Pamela Elliott of The Edwards County Sheriff’s Office.

During the interview, Joseph Arrevalos confessed to murdering his mother. On June 27, 2016, Arrevalos pled guilty to Murder and as a part of a plea bargain he was sentenced to 50 Years in the Texas department of Corrections.
